MADREPERLA sparkling wine Gran Cuvée Classical Method, its elegant, rounded structure and impressive, full flavours suit it for the finest seafood dishes, both traditional and contemporary.
Growing area: the Marche, in the province of Ancona.
Location: in the Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi and Rosso Conero zones.
Age: 8-35 years.
Soils: derived from alluvially-deposited seabed sediment, predominanty clay and sand, with soils derived from rocky marl interleaved with strata of red-brown earth. Plio-Pleistocene and Miocene rock.
Aspect and elevation: Verdicchio: 400 m. - Montepulciano: 250 m.
Training system: arched cane and double Guyot.
Vineyard density: 1.700-3.500 vines per hectare.
Yield: 9 t grapes/ha.
Harvest: Verdicchio is picked by hand, during the coolest hours, into small boxes, and the whole clusters are left to cool in a cold store, then gently pressed. Gentle pressing of the Montepulciano clusters previously cooled.
Vinification: low-temperature fermentation for several months. The wine is bottled in the spring and slowly acquires effervescence, remaining on the less for at least 36 months.
Dosage: the liqueur d’expedition is the true key to the style and taste of the cuvée, and its exact composition is proprietary. It contains carefully-calibrated amounts of several vintages of Verdicchio Riserva Vigna Novali, as well as Verdicchio spirits that have been aged in old barriques for a minimum of three years.
Maturation: the wine ages at least another six months in the bottle after disgorging.
Tasting notes
Appearance: straw-yellow colour with coppery highlights; long-lasting bead of tiny bubbles.
Bouquet: lovely fragrances of fresh-baked bread and delicate scents of wild red berryfruit.
Palate: generous body and lengthy progression, with all of its components in superb balance.
This sparkling wine is already remarkably delicious and ready to be enjoyed even just a few weeks after disgorgement. However, the combination of two noble grape varieties, Verdicchio with its innate forcefulness and Montepulciano with its polyphenolic complexity, plus their origin in two exceptional terroirs, suggest that Gran Cuvée Madreperla can certainly spend much more time in the bottle and will impress collectors who lay it down for a number of years.
Serving suggestions: Wine lovers should enjoy it with all of the courses of a meal even if it is particularly tasty with shellfish, sauced fish and fish or vegetable risottos.
Serving temperature: 10° C.
Alcohol: 12,5% vol.
