Founded in 1868 thanks to the herbal experience of Girolamo Varnelli, the Varnelli Distillery is the oldest liquor house in the Marche region.
Through four generations of herbalists he has maintained with scrupulous professionalism the old artisan processing methods and the secrecy of the recipes with which the high quality standard of the products is ensured.
Distilleria Varnelli has been able to grasp the indications of the times from time to time by changing and updating, always lively and attentive to the needs of the market without ever altering the quality and intrinsic value of the products.
All this has ensured and continues to preserve the recognition, preference and great loyalty of the most demanding and refined consumers.
Without the happy intuitions of the great-grandfather Girolamo, his son Antonio and his grandson Girolamo, without their passion for the herbs of the Sibillini, we would not have come up to date to celebrate the glories of anise that, just when in the 60s seemed to have ended up in oblivion due to xenophile fashions and the qualitative decline, he found in these men the most convinced supporters of his qualities and properties.
Girolamo junior, in particular, made it his workhorse, until he reached the ideal product with the creation of "his" Varnelli, a special dry anise and its fresh and intense aroma means that a small amount is enough to give more taste even the best espresso or barley.
A traditional coffee killer "ammazza caffè", symbol of the Marche, also for the strong link with the rudimentary, but very widespread, distillation traditions present in the countryside.
The expression of pure anise: tasting it you enter the world of a "special taste", difficult to describe in words. This is why his label has always carried a phrase coined by Antonio Varnelli: "A taste is enough to make me prefer." It leaves a harmonious finish, an indication of exceptional quality, causing continuous sensations of pleasure.
Production is characterized by traditional methods and herbal culture linked to the territory which provide for the use of raw materials of vegetable origin (herbs, roots, seeds, spices, fruit, honey) transformed directly into the company according to unique recipes and reserved to the owners.
The only fuel used in the company is the wood. All Varnelli products are born: from infusions, from distillates, from decoctions on firewood and sweetened honey with honey of the Sibillini mountains and peaches of more varieties long macerated in alcohol.
Faithful to the quality and rigorous protection of the inherited artisan tradition.
Muccia a small village, in the province of Macerata, crossed by a stream, surrounded by nature, hosts numerous archaeological finds, remarkable fifteenth-century churches and a wonderful Franciscan hermitage, an oasis of peace and meditation.
In the Middle Ages, built under the name of Mutia, it was a strategic seat for the processing and trade of grains, so much so that the lordship of the Da Varano di Camerino had a castle built there to defend the mills.
The Varnelli production site is located in an elegant building designed in harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Faithful to the original setting of the company, the modernity of the systems is combined with the tradition of production methods.
